The Bureau of Justice Assistance recently released a funding opportunity that supports state, local, and tribal governments, law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, probation and parole departments, and sheriff’s departments in developing, implementing, or expanding de-escalation and crisis response training programs that improve law enforcement responses to and outcomes for individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions, intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DDs), physical disabilities, and/or traumatic brain injuries.

Category 1: Training Program for Law Enforcement Agencies (Anticipated Award Amount: $700,000)

Category 1 supports law enforcement agencies with the development or expansion of deescalation and crisis response training programs for interactions with individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities, and/or traumatic brain injuries, including but not limited to the adoption of virtual reality (VR) technology.

This is an annually-recurring, excellent opportunity to gain federal funding for a life-saving V-Armed  system to prepare officers for an unlimited variety of high-risk scenarios they may encounter in the field. There is no substitute for the multi-participant, full-body immersive training that V-Armed provides. Along with our leading-edge scenario authoring platform Dispatch, trainers can craft custom-branched scenarios, design their own environment floorplans, and prepare teams for use-cases from de-escalation to mental distress to active shooter.
